Where Learning Is An Adventure
This week was slightly disrupted by having a scheduled snow day on Monday and an unscheduled snow day on Thursday. However, we did get quite a bit of learning done. Students really enjoyed the stories, "Snow Surprise" and "Snowflake Man" which went perfectly with the weather. We studied the long o sound spelled with digraphs /oa/ and /ow/. This short week was a good one for the kids to spend a little time reviewing some previously covered concepts. We continued to work on literary elements of genre, characters, setting, and plot. We practiced using high frequency words in sentences. We studied contractions and reading with punctuation to guide phrasing.

This week in first grade reading we studied the short /o/ sound, suffix –ed and –ing, telling sentences, and read a realistic fiction story about a girl and her dog. We studied the literary element of characters. In math, we continued to work on the concept of Subtraction.
