It has been a great first week of school. In addition to the usual first week of school business, students in my classes have been busy with creative writing (English I and II), taking practice AP Literature exams, and creating posters for the different types of speech communication (Speech). Speech students covered Chapter 1 and took a test on Friday. English I and II used the computers to type their creative writing projects and submitted them through Edmodo. English I also created gardens using Play-Doh. Students had to list a noun in the garden, give a word that described the noun (adjective), list a word that shows the noun performing some action (verb), list a word that shows how that action was being performed (adverb) and where the noun was in relation to some other object in the garden (prepositional phrase). Then they put all of these words together to write a complete labeled sentence and posted on the AH HA board. It has been a very productive week, and I am looking forward to working with this group of students this year.
